Four generations of Myers have claimed a little spot in China Grove as their base of operations in the plumbing industry.“This was actually our Granny and Grandad’s place,” said Greg Myers, Myers Plumbing. “It has been passed down through the generations, and we have Plumbing dynasty built it up. It was just a little bitty old house. Foster Road was a dirt road.” Starting a true family business, Greg and his brother David Myers opened Myers Plumbing in 1975. “Our first job was actually pouring a sidewalk for a guy,” David said. “It was work.” Greg’s sons, Cody and Damian Myers, and his grandson, Erik Guerrero, now work for the company, along with his wife, Sylvia. Greg and David both went through the local union apprenticeship program. Greg went to work for their father, Harold Myers, at Johnson & Myers Mechanical
Contractors. David went to Mueller and Wilson. Their brother Jeff Myers also plumbed for 10 years and decided it was not for him. He became a hunting guide instead. When their father’s company partnership dissolved, he went to work with his sons. With his expertise, the projects grew in size. “Probably the biggest job we did in the early years was Val Verde Hospital,” Greg said. “That was well over a million dollars back in ‘83. That kind of put us on the map.” Their uncles Bill and Harrison Myers joined the company as well. Greg and David also followed in brother Jeff’s footsteps as hunting guides in South Texas for clients. “We got out of that because it took the fun out of it,” Greg said. “I enjoy just going down there and seeing the wildlife. It’s not so much about shooting something anymore as it is just being down there in the wilds and relaxing.”
